Once you have a general understanding of who we are talking to and kind of where they are on this awareness and sophistication spectrum we need to figure out more about where they are emotionally, where they are mentally, where their desires are, where their fears are. We need to understand this on a fundamental level. We need to understand how they talk about their dream state, how they talk about their current state, how they talk about their problems, that they have identified their problems, if they understand the solution and we need to understand as much information about our target market as possible.
Never skip doing research
Some copywriters skip the research phase and just start writing because it feels good, they are excited, they are in the mood to write some copy. This isn't a good idea because whenever you do that your writing has no power no impact. It doesn't connect with the people in that target market so you need to use research to gain this advantage and it's a lengthy process. You are going to do this at the beginning of every time you sit down to write copy. It's extremely important because this is what allows you to communicate on a deep level with your readers. Always remember the one that impacts the reader most wins.
Clients customers
There are a couple of ways to do this, the best way is to partner with a client who already has customers. If you partner with a business who already have a bunch of really good customers the best way is just to talk to those customers.
Online Research
If you don't have that option then you want to go online and find people that are over sharing their frustrations online about where they are now or their desires about where they would like to go that match your target market.
The importance of research
The importance of doing this research and finding customers online talking about this product or service in your target market is absolutely crucial. This is because if you want to impact the reader on a deep level and get them to take action you need to enter the conversation they are already having inside of their brain. People have a way of talking and thinking about their problems or their desires and their frustrations , what they like to have . They have a way of thinking about this already. So if you can show up and use those same words, use that understanding of where they are to tailor your message and use that as sort of almost like ammunition for this communication fight you are having with them you are going to be able to impact them on a deep level.
